Yan Zhang is the founder and managing member at YMMD Tax and Wealth Planning where she provides tax return preparation, tax and financial planning services to business and business owners in the greater Washington DC area and across the United States.
A recognized tax expert, Yan has nearly 15 years of public accounting experiences including more than 7 years serving as a Tax director/Senior Tax Manager with two of top 6 global accounting firms. She advises both public and private clients on a range of complex tax and business matters. Her broad experience with corporate, pass-through, individual taxation and hands-on knowledge to complex, multifaceted issues, including multi-state and international taxation matters, is critical in guiding her clients through all stages of growth from start-up to a profitable exit strategy. She has many successful stories representing clients in the federal and state income tax examinations.
Yan also has extensive experience with complex multinational income tax provisions (ASC 740) for more than a dozen SEC clients and has prepared tax provision and financial statement disclosure for non-audit public and non-SEC clients. As the income tax provision requires the specialist have a thorough understanding of GAAP accounting and tax treatment, she is proficient with accounting literature. She also has extensive experience with mergers and acquisition, identifying risks and opportunities in the due diligence process side by side with top law firms and private equity firms. She works with closely held businesses and their owners to identify tax planning strategies to maximize after-tax cash flow and the value of the enterprise.
Yan is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) credential from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). She is also a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® practitioner helping her clients achieve an equitable divorce financial settlement affordably. Her intense personal financial background gives her a different perspective than many CPAs and enables her to help the business owners who seek not only the business growth but also calmness and enhancement to the accumulation, preservation and generational transfer of the family wealth. She holds Series 6 and 63 FINRA licenses as well as health and life insurance licenses.
A first generation immigrant, Yan is an intelligently and emotionally mature entrepreneur and a hands-on practitioner. She is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese. In her downtime she enjoy reading, gardening and playing ukelele with her two handsome little boys.
